Happy New Year

I created this blog a few years ago and have never really kept up with it. One of my 2012 goals is to work on blogging more and more. I think one of my biggest reasons I have not blogged continuously is because I am not the best at writing, but here it goes. I have several other goals for 2012 and they are as follows :

1. Keep a record book of my day to day riding
2. Work on being more organized in the barn and at home
3. Save up money for my very own horse trailer.

2011 was a great year but I didn't get to compete like I would have wanted too. My riding is going to be a key focus for the 2012 year. I have been riding JJ continuously and it is showing every day by the flexibility in her body and the soar feeling in mine. My legs are getting a huge work out and I am working on riding with more leg and less hand.

WVSHA fun show

TODAY was the WVSHA fun show at Colonial Stables in Charleston, WV. We had a great outing. Robin and Frank even came out and rode. Two of Robins student's Ashley and Kathern showed for the very first time and both got blue ribbons plus a few other colors. Kelsey show DJ at 3' and made it a really beautiful ride. Robin rode DJ in 2 equation class and got a blue and red ribbon. Skylar completed her very first horse show and even trotted with out a lead line. She recieved 2 blue ribbons. Chief and I cleaned up on the 3' course and received 2 blue ribbons and had a very beautiful round. Frank also rode chief and did excellent. He received 4th and 3rd at 3' and that is awesome considering he has not jumped 3' for over 9 years. He rode chief 2 days before the show and they were able to figure each other out in that short period. We look forward to many more fun shows and hope more can come and join in on all the fun.

SAYRE SCHOOL CT- PURPLE WEEKEND

JJ and PAIGE- the pair was awesome. This mare has never been away from home and with her first time passed with flying colors. This mare has also been kept in a pasture for the last 5years and has not been ridden but a month. I believe she loves to show. Paige kept her in the arena and completed a very quiet test. They were in 7th after dressage and went on to show jumping and cleared every fence with ease. The pair stayed in 7th. (which is Purple)

DJ and KELESY- These two had a great time with a good dressage score of 34 which put them in 5th place. This pair then went on to show jumping and had a beautiful round with only dropping one rail. They have been working on improving there show jumping. I believe this pair has done it! This put the pair in 7th place (which is purple)

CHIEF- he was an exceptional boy! He started out by loosing a shoe Friday night and then having it tacked back on Saturday morning before dressage. With a very quick warm up in dressage (watch broke before getting him tacked up) He had a very good test. I believe the judge was very pleased because she scored him a 29 which is the lowest score he has received so far. He received 8s in all movements that are usually his worst ones. Then around 4pm he did his 2nd training level CT ever and he went around the area with no problem. He got a little deep to two of the fences which cost him some point and we ended up in 7th place (which is Purple)

The entire team that went ended up with a purple ribbon. The big joke of the show was that paige was rubbing off on us with her love of purple.

FRANK DOING A WONDERFUL JOB KEEPING THE ARENA LOOKING BEAUTIFUL

Despite the rain we had a really good turn out for the clinic. Everyone had a blast and learned a lot from Linda. We hope to have linda come back again in the fall. We had about 9 rides a day and then on saturday night we all went out to dinner together; to pick linda's brain on any further questions we may have about her or what she does. Louisa and Kim were wonderful helping to prepare the food for each day and THE STABLES AT MEADOWVIEW help out in so many ways, if it was not for them we could not have had this education weekend.

PAUL FRAZER COMBINED TEST

Well I am a little late on the results but I am so proud of Paige and the ponies. We started out on a late start on Friday because of the work schedule I have been putting in at work. As I got to the barn to load the ponies up several barn friends had began packing for us. It is so great to have wonderful help and support. It was raining really bad as we loaded up. We had a long drive to Lexington but got to enjoy the ride down and the stop at applebees for dinner. We pulled into the horse park and unloaded the ponies. Ty was a little nervous because he could not see dj but quickly got comfortable. We cleaned up and had DJ braid for the night. The next morning Paige and I walked down to the dressage arenas to being the fun day. Paige but in a wonderful test for the start of her season and it put her in 4th place with DJ. I prepared to warm Ty up for his dressage test and was just hopping to keep him in the arena. As we entered the arena at A I began to feel this really confident pony beneath me. He put in a really good test for his first ever. Then we cleaned the boys up and headed off to show jumping. Paige warmed up and then was off to complete her very first show jumping round ever. She was a little nervous but with the help of the wonderful horse DJ put in a really nice round which kept her in 4th place. GREAT JOB PAIGE! Ty then prepared for his turn and was a little excited and upset with other horses in the warm up but we went in the ring and he showed off. This pony was so brave and was very consistent. He ended up in 8th place out of 13 horses. He was the only pony is his group. The day was a very happy day for everyone. Congrats ponies and riders!

First Show of the Season

We went to lakeside arena to get the ponies out for the first time this season. Paige, kelsey, and Kayley went with me. Paige got through her first 2' course with DJ and place two 2nd place ribbons. Kelsey showed DJ and Chief in the 2' and 2'6 jumper courses. Kayley also showed ty in his first ever show they place 1st over poles. I competed Chief and DJ in the 3'- 3'3" course and both horse were great clearing every fence with plenty of scope. I also took ty and did his first 2' course and he was awesome. All the horses and girls did wonderful in the first show of the season. I am looking forward to more great rides this year.

Octoberfest HT

Octoberfest was a good show to end on for the next month. Kelsey and DJ did wonderful for there last show of the season. With a great dressage test DJ pulled a 29 score and was in 3rd place. Then he went on to XC and was pumped to be out in the field. You can tell this guy loves XC and wants to jump everything on course and more. She had a few speed faults which put in in 4th place. Show jumping was next and she had a good double clear round which kept her in 4th place overall. Chief had a wonderful dressage test considering the muck in warm up. This guy had a score of 40.5 which put him in 4th place. The next morning he went out on XC and was just not focused as well as his first novice at jumpstart. He had a really questionable coop 2 strides to a ditch and he was just not with it and stopped at the ditch. We went and did the option to help. He completed XC and was then on to show jumping and had a double clear round and a large jump to every fence. Chief finished in 8th place overall. Octoberfest is always a good ending show for the season.

Linda Strine Cancellation

Unfortunately we had to cancel the Linda Strine Clinic because she is not able to come for a one day clinic. We would like to have her come in the future so if you are interested please let me know and we can start planning for a clinic with her in the spring.

DCPC CT

Sunday was the DCPC CT. Chief had a decent dressage test a little unsteady and not confident under the covered building. He did however receive nice comments and a 39 score. Then for his first 3'3 show jumping round he was exceptionally wonderful with the nice distances to every fence and large efforts over every fence, He made his round feel so smooth. This guy can has so much scope. DJ had a really good dressage test and the judge even wrote WOW under gaits for this horse. He ad a little more difficult show jumping round. He was not as willing and was a little confused because the fences were very close to each other. All and all both guys did really well completeing their first training level CT. Both horses will be doing lakeside this winter and preparing to move up next season.

Jumpstart Horse Trial

Chief has just completed his first novice horse trial. Starting of on Saturday he went into the dressage arena with a lot more impulsion than he has ever had. He finished in dressage on a 38 score what was a huge improvement and very impressive because he had moved up a level. Then he went out on cross country like a pro. He had some very big questions and never hesitated over a single fence. He was actually going very fast which we had to bring him down to a trot on fence 15 until the finish. He moved up to 9th after XC. On sunday he was a little quieter and I didn't push him like I should have and he pulled two rails (lots of horse this weekend pulled rails). He then ended up in 11th place out of 20 horses. This guy is now a novice level eventer and has shown me that he has plenty more scope for more. Next weekend he will be doing DCPC CT at Training Level.
